As our article about Thailand data roaming options in Croatia had great response from our customers from Thailand, we decided to continue the series with other countries. Third in the series is USA. We took four most popular mobile service providers from the US and looked into their data roaming options for users traveling abroad.
AT&T
AT&T offers, as they call it, Passport packages. They have three types, Passport, Passport Silver and Passport Gold. You have to pay a one-time price for one month of service with the price varying depending on data in the package and extra data charges, after you reach the limit. For 30$ you’ll get 120MB, and $0.25/MB after you reach the limit. The $60 package has 300MB included and $0.20/MB thereafter. The Passport Gold offers 800MB included and 0.15$/MB extra charge after you pass the limit.
Sprint
Sprint’s offer is really simple. You get nothing for nothing :-). Croatia is not included in their data roaming countries.
T-Mobile
They have four plans in total. Depending on the data included under 4G speed they charge 50$ for 1GB, 60$/3GB, 70$/5GB and 80$ for unlimited. But here is the catch, 4G speed and data limit is only in the USA,Canada and Mexico. In 140 countries data is unlimited, but at the approx 128k speed. Say goodbye to speed, and hello to progress bar :-). Also tethering (mobile hot spot) is not allowed. For high speed and tethering you have to pay extra, and those passes are limited. For example 1 day pass is limited to 100MB of high speed Internet, 1 week to 200MB and 2 Weeks to 500MB.
Verizon
Verizon offers two plans for international mobile roaming, but they both have same data roaming packages so we’ll go for the cheaper and that is 100MB for #25/month. If you need more data, you’ll pay $25 more for every 100MB extra.
