How to connect to internet while in Croatia

We talked to you to see how visitors in Croatia connect to the internet. Not much to our surprise, roaming is still a pain point for tourists and business visitors alike.

Free WiFi hunting

While not as fun as a safari, or bird watching for that matter, hunting for WiFi has quite a lot in common with them and is still among the preferred methods of staying connected in Croatia. Most people still seek out open WiFi networks to connect to Internet , jumping from one bar to the next hoping to get a working link. While this method can yield results (depending how lucky you are) there are seldom any guarantees and reliability as your feedback showed us.

Data roaming

An option for some, a painful and expensive adventure for others. Depending on your home network provider and country of residence, data roaming in Croatia can be a bliss or feel like highway robbery.

Local prepaid SIM cards

An option for those willing to sacrifice being reachable via their domestic number or those carrying a spare phone or tablet, prepaid data SIMs come with their own set of inconveniences some of which we covered in our data SIM vs WiFi hotspot comparison. Hotel WiFi If you only need access to internet while you are in your hotel or AirBnB rental, this can work, even though hotel and apartment wireless is still often spotty to the point of being useless or not available at all, even in 4 star hotels!

Data diet, extreme style

Of course, for those brave enough, there is the way of Robinson Crusoe. Taking the data diet to the extreme and disconnecting from the internet for the duration of your stay, for those who both want this, and can afford it, by far the cheapest option. We have yet to find one person that can say yes to both, if you are among them, drop us a line ๐Ÿ™‚
